Flash on the Fly is back for Autumn 2024 with Guest Judge L.P. Hernandez
How quickly can you go from reading the open call to submitting a story? Can you do it in 2 days?
HOW IT WORKS:
On Saturday, November 9th, 2024, we will announce the theme and/or subgenre of the horror writing contest. From the time the announcement goes public, you’ll have only 48 hours to conceive, write, and submit a flash fiction story of 500-1000 words. The stories will be judged by L.P. Hernandez, and a single winner will be selected for a $50 cash prize and publication on the Death Knell Press website. This is a non-exclusive contract after publication. Author retains all rights to the story. (See sample contract here.)
HOW TO ENTER:
- Free to enter.
- Come to the Death Knell Press website or look for posts on Death Knell Press’ Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram feeds on Saturday, November 9 at 10:00AM EST.
- Read the posted guidelines for entry.
- Come up with a brilliant idea!
- Write a 500 – 1000 word story that adheres to the subgenre, theme, and other guidelines.
- Submit a .docx file to the contest email address (which will be provided with the forthcoming guidelines on November 9th) no later than the DEADLINE: 48-hours later, on Monday, November 11th, by 10AM EST.
- Subscribe to receive an email update when the contest goes live (optional).
Guest Judge L.P. Hernandez
L.P. Hernandez is an author of horror and speculative fiction. His stories have been featured in anthologies from Cemetery Gates Media, Dark Matter Ink, and the Howl Society among others. He is a regular contributor to The NoSleep Podcast and has released three short story collections, including the recently published No Gods, Only Chaos, featured on the Talking Scared podcast. His novellas include Stargazers and In the Valley of the Headless Men. L.P. also hosts Dog-eared Nightmares, a podcast about well-loved horror. In 2024, L.P. partnered with fellow military veteran, L.C. Marino, to launch Sobelo Books, an indie horror press founded on transparent business practices and integrity. When not writing, L.P. serves as a medical administrator in the U.S. Air Force. He is a husband, father, and a dedicated metalhead.
